ALLEN HUNTER, 66, DIES ON THURSDAY; RITES HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services were held at Smith funeral home Saturday afternoon for Allen Hunter, 66, of 515 Main street who died in a local hospital at 7:20 p.m. Thursday after a long illness. He had been hospitalized for an extended period.

The Rev. W.F. Overhulser, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the services. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner and pallbearers were Vern Millgate, Warren Miller, Alfred Martens, Ike Sharp, Fred Schrader and Roy Temple. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Son of Alex and Elizabeth Elliott Hunter, Allen Hunter was born Oct. 18, 1887, in Jasper county on a farm west of Newburg. On Aug. 23, 1914, he was married in Grinnell to *Elsie Barnes who preceded him in death.

Hunter moved to Grinnell from Cedar Rapids 45 years ago. He worked as an electrical engineer for Iowa Southern Utilities company and received his 40-year button.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty, at home; two step-daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mary) Shwab and Mrs. Clarence (Esta) German; a sister, Mrs. Bert Demory of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, James of Moline, Ill., and Robert of San Francisco, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
