DORA M. BRENEMAN

Dora M. Breneman, 94, of Brooklyn and formerly of Grinnell, died Friday, April 23, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

Funeral services for Dora Breneman will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers will be Tim, Bill and John Rohwedder, Scott and Mark Breneman and Willis Montgomery.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1909, in Jasper County, the daughter of Oliver and Bertha Adams Ladd. She was raised in the Brooklyn area and was a 1927 graduate of Brooklyn High School.

She taught in rural schools near Brooklyn for several years.

On Feb. 18, 1933, she married Lawrence Breneman in Worthington, Minn. The couple farmed near Brooklyn for years, then moved in 1950 to a farm near Grinnell. They retired to Grinnell in 1977. She had been a resident of Brookhaven since 1996.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her daughter, Faye Rohwedder of Janesville, Iowa; her son, Dennis Breneman of Oxford, Wis.; a sister, Ann Rogan of Beaumont, Texas; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters, including Sara Montgomery, a former Brooklyn resident.
