GEORGE BARNEY FARR PASSES AWAY
George Barney Farr was born in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania on June 22, 1844, and died in Grinnell, Iowa, on April 18, 1926, at the age of eighty-one years, nine months, and twenty-seven days. He came to Grinnell in 1878, and made his home in or near the city after that time.
On July 12, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie A. Thompson of Grinnell. To this union were born three children, Verne, Frank, and Lois, all of whom are living.
Mr. Farr was a carpenter by trade, and few men love their work as he did. He was always painstaking and accurate in his work; but in his last failing years, he came to feel more and more that the buildings he constructed were to be his monument, so he redoubled his efforts, and worked with his whole heart in his work.
He was always devoted to his family, a kind and loving husband and father.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and children, and many friends.
Oh sleep, the dearest friend of a
weary man
When the toil of the day is o'er
Fold me to thy gentle breast
And softly close the door.Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln and the body tenderly laid away in Hazelwood Cemetery. Two hymns, "In the Garden" and "Shall We Gather at the River" were sweetly sung by a quartet from Westfield composed of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Howell and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lord.
Pall bearers were: John Bryan, George Quivey, Bert Quivey, Sam Devinney, Norman Pilgrim and Will Ditzler.
