James C. Moore, 64

James Carroll Moore, 64, of Barnes City, died of cancer on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 at his home.

His funeral service was Saturday, Aug. 27, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Doug Smiley officiating.  Interment was at Sheely [Sheley] Cemetery, Poweshiek County.  Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Casketbearers were John Moore, Lyle Davis, Lloyd Hartman, Ron Curry, Kenneth Williams and Gene Davis.

Honorary casketbearers were Kenneth Ferns and Charlie Den Hartog.

Military graveside rites were performed by Fuller Sarvis American Legion Post No. 507 of Barnes City.

James was born Aug. 18, 1941 in rural Barnes City, the son of Charles Henry and Della Thelma (Smith) Moore.  He graduated from New Sharon High School in 1961 and Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.  He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.  On June 28, 1968, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Hartman at the Barnes City Christian Church.  They lived in LaPorte City where Jim worked as a conservation officer for Black Hawk County for 13 years before moving to Barnes City.  He was a member of the Methodist Church.

James is survived by his wife, JoAnne, of Barnes City, and their children, Carol Moore and John Moore, both of Barnes City; Donna Lamb of Rhodes; Debbie (David) McQuilkin of LaPorte City; and Christy (Kevin) Lennie of Tama; eight grandchildren, Niki Moore, Chris Lamb, Grant Lamb, Devin Moore, Makayla Moore, Alicia McQuilkin, Bruce Grife and Amanda Grife; three sisters, Joyce Eakins of New Mexico; Colleen DeHoedt of Barnes City; and June Den Hartog of Eddyville; three Brothers, Marvin of Barnes City, Donald of Oskaloosa and Harold of Georgia, and other relatives and many friends.
