MRS. J.W. FOWLER LIVED CONSISTENT CHRISTIAN LIFE

E. Malvina Allbee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustavus Allbee, early pioneers in Iowa, was born June 30, 1864 in Muscatine county, Iowa.

On Oct. 25, 1882, she was married to Joseph William Fowler, who was accidentally killed by an auto in California in 1935.

To this union were born nine children, four of whom died in infancy, and Ruth in 1934. Mrs. Fowler is survived by two daughters, Theda Jordan of Riverside, Calif., Eunice Otcheck of Grinnell, Iowa, and two sons, Weaver of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Raymond of Winterset, Iowa. Also, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one brother, Leslie Allbee.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Fowler made their home in Poweshiek county, until 1926 when they moved to Whittier, Iowa, where they lived until her husband died. Since this time she has made her home with her daughter, Eunice.

While living in Grinnell she was an active member of the Methodist church. She served as president of the Ladies Aid for four years. At the time that the church purchased the organ she was one of the active leaders in the raising of funds for this project. She was an active member of the Missionary Societies, and the Dorcas Sunday school class. She was known throughout the community as a fine Christian woman, who gave cheerfully of her time and means in the work of the church.

She was an industrious woman, giving all of her effects, thought, and time to her children and husband and the church. She loved her family and her friends and used her influence towards leading them into harmonious, righteous living. The influence of this mother will continue to stimulate all of those who remain to carry out her ideals.

Services were held at the Methodist church Monday, October 9 at 1 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. Charles Rowe and Rev. Walter H. Wilson of the First Friends church. Two numbers were sung by Mrs. Margery Bouma and Mrs. Roscoe Dempster. Prof. Elias Blum presided at the organ. A short service was conducted by Rev. Bernard Kemper of New Albion at the cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

The pallbearers were Wm. Boyle, Fred McDowell, Rolla Whitaker, B.N. Whitaker, Harvey Mikel, Alfred Paul. Honorary bearers were Charles Dawley, Will Alley, and Dean Eichhorn.
