DONNA KROEHNKE SERVICES HELD

Donna B. Kroehnke, 88, of Malcom, died of a heart ailment Monday, Jan. 25, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Schlobohm of the Malcom-Sheridan Parish officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler.

Pallbearers were Maynard Durr, Richard C. Kirby, Laverne Lamb, Bob Maring, Wesley Meyer, Walter (Ward) Puls, Thomas Reed, Preston Shaw, Harvey Tindle and Ralph Wentzel.

Following cremation, her ashes were buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom. Memorials in her name may be left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Don and Emma Moore Shaw, she was born on May 2, 1899, at Kinross. She graduated from Keswick High School and later received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She also attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She taught in rural schools in the Malcom and Sheridan areas for 18 years.

On Jan. 23, 1937, she was married to Frank L. (Duke) Kroehnke in Des Moines. The couple operated Duke's Cafe at Malcom for 11 years and at Klemme for 13 years until retiring. Mrs. Kroehnke had since made her home in Malcom.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Ellis and Doris Broders, both of Grinnell; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Schultz of Malcom and Florence Heishman of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
