LILLIAN PUGH SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Lillian M. Pugh, 83, who died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at St. Francis Manor, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home.

The Rev. Robert C. Smith, pastor of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, officiated. Organist was James Severe, and pallbearers were George Appleby, Bradley Herrold, Charles Herrold, Donald Herrold, Mark Pugh and Darwin Schlotterbeck. Burial was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The daughter of Andrew and Emma Anna Baustian Appleby, she was born Jan. 6, 1897, in Sheridan Township. She attended rural schools and later worked for the Interior Telephone Co.

She was married to Floyd R. Pugh on June 26, 1918, in Grinnell. The couple had five children. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Pugh lived in Grinnell where Mr. Pugh worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Mrs. Pugh baked pies for Cunningham Drug for a few years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Paul (Erma) Herrold of Grinnell, Floyd J. Pugh of Sedalia, Mo., Foster Pugh of Montezuma, Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Harbin of Macon, Ga., and Carl Pugh of San Diego, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Ida Logan of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Lucille A. Foster of Des Moines, Mrs. Clara Lash of Arvada, Colo., and Mrs. Gladys Jones of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Austin and Clinton Appleby.
