MRS. CAFCULES SERVICES HELD

Mercedes A. Cafcules, 53, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 15, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ--Congregational. The Rev. Philip Ramstad officiated. Organist was Deanna Acrea, and soloist was Sherry Shults.

Pallbearers were Bo Battey, Jay DeYoung, Ed Dieleman, Wayne Evans, Paul Flatt, Gene Lacaeyse and Darwin Stepanek. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in Mrs. Cafcules' name may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Edward Krugel and Pauline Walker Rock, she was born Sept. 7, 1930, at Deerbrook, Wis. She graduated from Antigo, Wis., High School and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

She was married to William G. Cafcules on April 28, 1959, in Chicago. The couple lived in Watseka, Ill., and operated a restaurant in Lyndon, Ill., before coming to Grinnell in 1977 to operate the Silhouette Restaurant. Mrs. Cafcules had served as county chairwoman for the Iowa Restaurant Association's annual Coffee Day to aid the mentally retarded.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mercedes Lynn Brown of Rte. 4, Grinnell, and Wylanne M. Cafcules, a student at Des Moines Area Community College; two grandsons; one brother, Philip Krugel of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; one sister, Sheryl Hoover of Denver, Colo.; and her mother, Pauline Rock of Antigo, Wis. She was preceded in death by her father in 1979.
