WILLIAM CAFCULES

William G. Cafcules, 82, of Grinnell died Saturday, Dec. 29, at the home of his daughter in Grinnell.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the United Church of Christ--Congregational, with the Revs. Vicki Engelmann and Bob Molsberry officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and pallbearers were Greg Brown, Bryce Christensen, Don Darrah, Ed Dieleman, Larry Garber, Gene Lacaeyse and Darwin Stepanek.

Fraternal graveside rites were conducted by members of the Grinnell Masonic Lodge, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Thomas and Maude Harris Cafcules, he was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Chicago, where he was raised and educated. He worked for his father in the family grocery meat market and restaurant business for several years in the Chicago area. He later owned several nightclubs and restaurants in Chicago, as well as a small trucking operation which took his business throughout the Midwest.

He moved to Antigo, Wis., and operated the Arrowhead Inn for several years.

On April 28, 1959, he was married to Mercedes Ann Krugel in Chicago. They owned the Lamplighter in Watseka, Ill., and the Landmark in Lyndon, Ill. They moved to Grinnell in 1977 and operated the Silhouette Restaurant. Mr. Cafcules retired and sold his business in 1986.

During his retirement, he had been spending winter months at the Big Valley Trailer Park in Donna, Texas, and spending his summers in the Black Hills of South Dakota helping his daughter and son-in-law in their operation of Chris' Campground.

Surviving are two daughters Mercedes "Dee" Brown of Grinnell and Lanna Christensen of Spearfish, S.D.; five grandchildren and one sister, Marie Kokenes of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Harry; and one sister, Virginia Cafules.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, Twin Cities Unit.
