FRANK S. WHEELOCK IS BURIED HERE

Fifty years ago the name of Sherman was a familiar one in the vicinity of Grinnell and Chester. One of the many descendants of this old local family was Frank Sherman Wheelock, whose mother was the sister of Jason, Newton, Wilson and Henry Sherman. His father was Harrison T. Wheelock of another family of early days, and he had one brother, Willis H., who died in 1921, and a sister, Mary, now of Cleveland.

Frank Wheelock was born in DeWitt, Iowa, in 1858, and at his death in Estherville Oct. 1, was 73 years old.

His childhood and early youth were spent in Chester and Grinnell, his pioneering instinct leading him later to Nebraska and to Armour, S.D., where he was one of a group of Grinnell families living there in the eighties.

The past thirty years had been spent in various localities in Minnesota and in Estherville, where in his failing health he has lived for several years.

He was of retiring disposition, generous and friendly, finding friends wherever he lived.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Snyder Undertaking parlors, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum, and burial was in the family lot in Hazelwood cemetery. Relatives and old friends acted as pall bearers: Ralph Sherman, Clarence Vogt, Elmer T. Rickard, J.H. Alley, W.H. Alley and Charles H. Hanson.
