Obituary clipping dated July 31, 1909

Rilla Sheehy was born in Mahaska county, Iowa, on April 10, 1869.

In 1894 she was united in marriage to M.E. Black.

She had been a sufferer for several years from asthma which finally caused a weakening of the heart action and caused her death very suddenly on July the third, '09, at their beautiful country home a few miles east of Ottawa to which place they moved last spring, hoping that it might benefit her health. Yet while her friends were all unconscious of any danger, the angel came and bore her spirit away.

In 1893 she was ocnverted and united with the M.E. church and was a faithful member when she passed away. With her husband had been a member of the First M.E. church in Ottawa for several years and after moving to the country transferred their membership to North New Hope church near their home.

Mrs. Black was a beautiful Christian character, quite unassuming, yet strong and influential, a great inspiration and help to all with whom she came in contact. And her quietly passing away to her heavenly reward was in keeping with the life of sunshine that she had lived. For many years she had been a great sufferer but no word of complaint ever fell from her lips, but she sweetly trusted all to the Lord and when the angels came to take her, they found her ready to go. The Master said, "It is enough, come up higher." And she was not for the Lord took her.

Surely it can be said of her "She hath done what she could and she loved the appearing of the Lord and has received a crown of life."

Her remains were taken by the heart broken husband to Grinnell, Iowa, their old home for burial.

Blest are the dead who die in the Lord.
A Friend.
