M.J. GARRIGAN PASSES AWAY

M.J. Garrigan passed away yesterday morning after several weeks illness during most of which time he had been at St. Francis hospital. His wife and son survive him. To many of us Mr. Garrigan has for a long period of years been known as "Mike." He was kind hearted, generous, a hard worker, always courteous and a friend to be valued above most friends. The Senior of the Herald has known Mr. Garrigan for forty years or more. During all that time there has been between the two a warm fraternal friendship and it is a pleasure to recall many meetings, many conversations and much interchange of fraternal relations. Mr. Garrigan was honest and square. He was true to every interest with which he was connected. He has been a member of the Fire Company in Grinnell so long that most of us can not remember when he first became a member. And for many years has been their secretary and treasurer, and he will be greatly missed by the company, who loved and trusted him.

The funeral will be conducted from the Catholic Church tomorrow morning at nine o'clock.

Michael James Garrigan was born in Elizabeth, N.J., July 27th, 1862, and died in Grinnell on December 17th, 1925, he was therefore 63 years, 4 months and 20 days old when he passed away.

He came to Iowa in 1883 and was united in marriage October 22d, 1889, to Eliza Black to which union two children were born, Hazel who died June 14th, 1911, and Philip L. who still lives in Grinnell.

He was a man among men and was loved by all who knew him. He had a wide circle of friends who will miss him, will miss his well known voice among them, and his cheerfulness and happy disposition will live long after their friend "Mike" has been laid to rest.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and son and a brother, Charles, who also resides here.
