CORA PETERSON

Cora B. Peterson, 81, of Grinnell died Sunday, Oct. 10, at the home of her daughter, Bev Anderson.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers were Wayne Callison, Gene Campbell, Dale and Marvin Doty, Billie and Jimmy Doud, and Don Sowerwine. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

The daughter of Jay and Jennie Tuttle Jewell, she was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Arriba, Colo. She moved with her family to Everly, Iowa, where she was raised and attended school. She was a 1928 graduate of Everly High School.

She was married to Oliver R. "Swede" Peterson July 26, 1931, in Montezuma. The couple lived in Grinnell.

Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary, the Rebekahs, the Grandmothers Club and the Sewing Club. She also played with the Kitchen Band.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Bev Anderson of Grinnell; two sons, Russell of Newton and Earl "Tony" of Lynnville; two sisters, Thelma Wischnesky and Lucy Matthiesen, both of Tumwater, Wash.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Viola Doud and Pearl Doty; and two brothers, Lyman and Allen Jewell.
