SERVICES TUESDAY FOR VIOLA DOUD

Mrs. Viola F. Doud, 66, the widow of Mahlon Doud, died late Saturday evening (Jan. 31) at a Newton nursing home following failing health the past few years.

The daughter of Jay and Maude Tuttle Jewell, Mrs. Doud was born north of Brooklyn in Madison Township, Poweshiek County, on Dec. 26, 1903. She attended the rural schools and graduated from Everly (Iowa) high school. She also attended Normal Training school in Storm Lake. Following her teacher's training she taught in the country schools of Madison Township.

On May 2, 1931, Mrs. Doud was married to Mahlon Doud in Montezuma. To this marriage were born three children--Mrs. Gene (Byrna) Campbell, William Francis Doud, and James Allen Doud, all of Grinnell. Mr. and Mrs. Doud had made their home in Grinnell since their marriage except for one year which they spent in the state of Washington.

Survivors include her three children; three grandchildren--Patricia Jean, Michael Wayne, and Lori Lee Campbell; and four sisters and one brother--Allen Jewell of Chehalis, Wash., Mrs. Harry (Lucy) Matthiesen of Woodland, Wash., Mrs. Thelma Wischnesky of Olympia, Wash., Mrs. Pearl Doty of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Mrs. O.R. (Cora) Peterson of Grinnell.

Mrs. Doud was preceded in death by her husband Mahlon in 1954 and one brother Lyman Jewell in 1927.

Funeral services for Mrs. Doud will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Eugene Young, minister of the Grinnell United Methodist church, officiating.

Organist will be Mrs. Marvin Nothnagel.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Doty, Marvin Doty, Ross Doty, Russell Peterson, Tony Peterson and Webb Wallace.

Flower bearers will be Mrs. Loring Rohr and Mrs. Gary Smith.

Burial will be made in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
