SAMUEL JACOB PASSES AWAY AT ADVANCED AGE

Samuel Jacob, son of Adam and Catherine Jacob, was born August 5, 1849, at Fredericksburg, Maryland and died May 26, 1936 at his home in Grinnell, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 21 days.

When he was very young he moved to Sterling Illinois. Feb. 28, 1872 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Crichton. To this union were born three children, Samuel Guy who died when he was one year and a half old, Mrs. Agnes Kline of Grinnell and Mrs. Lena Porter of Grinnell.

For forty-one years he lived in Washington township near Ewart. He and his wife were active in community life and their influence was always strong for the best things.

Twenty-three years ago they moved to Grinnell where they made many abiding friendships.

Fourteen years ago a great event in their lives was the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows for about 50 years and Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the Methodist Episcopal church which he attended faithfully until the last few years when he was unable to attend.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alida Buckley of Monmouth, Ill., and two brothers, Emmanuel Jacob of Sterling, Ill., and Francis Jacob of Chicago, also two daughters, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was a good man and lived a long and honorable life. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

And so he came to the end of the road,
That had meant so much to him,
And at the end of that far dusty
road
He left a memory. And this mem-
ory we shall keep
Tied with the strings of our
hearts
For though the road was level or
steep
He tried to do his part.
--Laura S. Harmon.
