GRINNELL LADY TOOK OWN LIFE SUNDAY

Mrs. Lola Pilgrim, widow of the late Norman Pilgrim of Grinnell, hanged herself Sunday morning in the Lone Elm Rest Home. She was 67 years of age. Despondency, according to Dr. W.B. Phillips, coroner, was the cause. No inquest was held.

Funeral services said Tuesday from the Methodist Church in Grinnell. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Ethel Pilgrim, widow of Norman O. Pilgrim, were held at the Smith funeral home on Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. W.F. Overhulser. Edward H. Bohstedt, accompanied by Mrs. Bohstedt sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Casketbearers were Floyd Clark, Harlan Clark, Thomas Clark, Warren Grooms, Dale Pilgrim and Wayne Tone. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Lola Ethel Kirkland, daughter of Joseph and Mary Kirkland, was born near Ewart August 3, 1883.

She attended Grinnell high school and later business college. She held a number of stenographic positions in Grinnell.

On Feb. 21, 1912 she was married to N.O.Pilgrim and took the responsibilities of raising his two children. They were Glen, now deceased, and Lola, who is now Mrs. Lola Ahrens and a teacher in fifth grade at Cooper school, Grinnell.

She joined the Methodist church when a small girl at Ewart but later transferred her membership to the Grinnell Methodist church.

Mr. Pilgrim passed away Sept. 9. 1949. She leaves her step-daughter, Mrs. Lola Ahrens and two grandsons, Robert and Richard Ahrens, and one sister, Mrs. Vesta Atkinson. There is also one nephew, Ralph R. Atkinson of Chicago, and a number of cousins.
