GEORGE EASTMAN

George Eastman was born in Grinnell, Iowa, June 18, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ackley Eastman, one of the earlier residents of the city. He was brought up to the trade of a harnessmaker which he followed all his life. He died at Lancaster, Calif., Jan. 7, 1927.

Mr. Eastman was educated in the Grinnell schools, boy and young man, a sturdy, willing youth whom all liked, and who was recognized as a young man of clean habits.

Sept. 21, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Neva Pilgrim of this community, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Croft Pilgrim.

Following Mr. Eastman's death funeral services were conducted at his late home in charge of the Odd Fellows of Lancaster Lodge No. 441, of which he was a Past Noble Grand. The body was brought to Grinnell accompanied by his wife. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Eastman's brother, P.H. Pilgrim, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum. Music was by a duet, Mrs. J.H. Rowe and Mrs. Chas. T. Laros, Miss Walker at the piano.

Bearers were Frank Child, Arthur Rutherford, Roy Cole, Will Nelson, Walter Deming and George Pearce.

Those of us who knew George Eastman in boyhood and up to manhood remember him as a courteous likeable boy and man and sympathize deeply with his wife in her sorrow. He was worthy of confidence and the warm friends he left is evidence of his manly character.
