LONG TIME RESIDENT OF GRINNELL DIES

Funeral Services For Benjamin Jones On Tuesday Afternoon.

Funeral services for Benjamin Jones will be held at his late home, 327 West St., Grinnell, on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. W.J. Stewart of the United Presbyterian church in charge. Relatives of the deceased serving as bearers will be: Charles H. Hanson, George Trumbel, Orville Pedersen, Charles Kaisand, Laird Jones and Alfred Jones. Mr. Jones died yesterday morning at six o'clock.

Benjamin Jones was born at Durant, Cedar county, Iowa, July 14, 1866. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones, came from New Jersey to Iowa in an early day. When Mr. Jones was 20 years of age the family came to Grinnell and he had lived here continuously since.

In November, 1886 he was married to Miss Dorothea Carstens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Carstens, who survives him. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary last November. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jones, one son dying in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs. Hilda Bruce of Des Moines; Karl Jones of Newton; Mrs. Florence Kaisand, Mrs. Helen Pedersen, Ernest, Harold, and Clifford Jones of Grinnell.

The grandchildren are: Mrs. Mary Wyatt, Mrs. Herbert Kline, Mrs. Elmer Bell, Mrs. Frank Gagle, Jr., Mable, Lee, Ralph and Jeane Bruce; Dorothy, Alfred, Max, Kenneth and Ernest Jones, Jr.; Mildred, Helen, Edith and Kenneth Kaisand; Ruth, Paul and Karl Pedersen; Barabara, Harold and Robert Jones; Margaret Ann and Louise Jones. The four great grandchildren are: Norma and Neta? Wyatt, Herbert Kline, Jr. and Joan Bell.

One brother, Clint Jones, well known auctioneer, and four sisters, Mrs. Will Tice and Mrs. C.H. Hanson of Grinnell, Mrs. Grace Lynch of Centralia, Ill. and Mrs. George Trumbel of Oskaloosa, survive. Death entered this family of brothers and sisters Sunday morning for the first time in 49 years.

During his early years Mr. Jones mastered the trades of gunsmith, blacksmith and butcher and worked at all of them at various times during his active years. He was an honest, dependable, hard-working man--a high class citizen. He and Mrs. Jones lived together happily, raised a large family in which they took great pride, and in turn their children have shown them great respect and appreciation.

Mr. Jones' death was entirely unexpected. He had been in his usual health and good spirits until Wednesday of last week when it is thought he suffered a slight stroke. Later he was taken to St. Francis hospital where he passed away Sunday morning at six o'clock.
