EDITH JONES HOWELL

Edith Marie Jones Howell, 98, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth D. Wallace officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud and pallbearers will be John D. Howell, John W. Howell, Joel D. Howell, Roger Howell, Tom Howell and Jim Howell. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

She was born May 5, 1901, in the Oak Grove community, the daughter of A. Clinton and Amy Boyle Jones. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School. She was married on Dec. 23, 1920, in the Oak Grove community to Glenn J. Howell. She was a teacher and homemaker. In 1925 the couple moved to Carrington, N.D., where they farmed before returning to Iowa in 1930 when they farmed for many years in the Gilman and Newburg areas, later retiring to Grinnell.

Mrs. Howell was a long-time member of the Newburg United Church of Christ.

She is survived by three sons, Harold J. of Rhodes; Keith W. of Grinnell and Clinton A. of Moline, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, one great grandson and one great great granddaughter.
