GLENN JOHN HOWELL

Glenn John Howell, 96, of the Mayflower died Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth D. Wallace officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud, and pallbearers will be Charles Fenner, David, Jim, John and Roger Howell, and Delmar Sharp. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

A Glenn J. Howell Memorial Fund has been established.

The son of Albert H. and Ada Sparks Howell, he was born June 29, 1899, near Lynnville. He was a graduate of Lynnville High School.

He was married to Edith Marie Jones Dec. 23, 1920, in the Oak Grove community. He worked for several years for Swaney's Dairy. In 1925 the couple moved to Carrington, N.D., where they farmed before returning to Iowa in 1930. They farmed for many years in the Gilman and Newburg areas and later retired to Grinnell.

Mr. Howell attended the Newburg United Church of Christ for many years.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Harold J. of Rhodes, Keith W. of Grinnell and Clinton A. of Moline, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wilma Steffen; one great grandson and one great-great-granddaughter.
