MR. PEDERSEN RITES HELD

Orville A. Pedersen, 87, of 90 4th Ave. in Grinnell died Monday evening at Friendship Manor. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marcus Reitz, pastor of the church, officiating.

Organist for the ceremony was Kathleen Heffner and pallbearers were Don Hasselbrink, Don Holley, Harold Jones, and Don, Kyle and Perre Pedersen. Interment was at Hazelwood Cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Grinnell General Hospital.

He was born on April 7, 1896, the son of Ommund and Bertha Tokle Pedersen. He attended rural school near the family farm and later studied at the Jewell Lutheran College in Jewell.

On Feb. 25, 1920, he married Helen L. Jones in Des Moines and the couple farmed in Sheridan and Grant Townships until retiring in 1972 and moving to Grinnell. He was also employed at the ASC office in Poweshiek County for several years.

Mr. Pedersen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was also a director of the Sheridan No. 9 school district for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen L. Pedersen of Grinnell; his children, Ruth A. Romani and Karl O. Pedersen, both of San Jose, Calif., and Paul Pedersen of Grinnell; two brothers, Leonard of Grinnell and Lawrence of Peoria, Ariz.; one sister, Anna Holley of Grinnell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paran O., Edwin and William G.; and one grandson.
