HELEN PEDERSEN

Helen L. Pedersen, 88, of Grinnell died Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. Francis Manor following a series of strokes.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Organist was Barbara Lien.

Pallbearers were Perre Pedersen, Kyle O. Pedersen, Don Pedersen, Harold Jones, Kenneth Jones and Kenneth Stokes. Honorary bearers were Clyde Houston, Kyle A. Pedersen, Richard Holley and Raymond King. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the First Presbyterian Church of Grinnell and left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Benjamin W. and Dorothea Carstens Jones, she was born Oct. 19, 1902, in Grinnell. She received her education in the Grinnell schools.

She was married to Orville A. Pedersen Feb. 25, 1920, in Des Moines. The couple farmed in Sheridan and Grant townships before retiring in 1972 and moving to Grinnell.

Mrs. Pedersen previously was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran Church, later joining the First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Grinnell General Hospital Auxiliary and a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Pedersen-Romani of San Jose, Calif.; two sons, Karl, also of San Jose, and Paul of Grinnell; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
