MRS. CHARLES C. JONES

Mary Ann Winans was born in Newark, N.J., May 31, 1846, and departed this life February 12, 1921. She came to Iowa in her early youth with her parents, Benjamin and Hannah Winans, and was married in 1862 to Charles Columbus Jones, who died November 28, 1912. Eight children were born to this union. They are: Charles Oliver and George Albert, deceased; Mrs. Emma Tice; Benjamin Jones; Mrs. Hannah Hanson, Mrs. Grace Coulson, Clint Jones and Mrs. Nell Trumbel.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

After spending a part of her early married life in Durant, Cedar county, she moved with her family to Grinnell, where she became a member of the Congregational church and had lived a kind and useful life, beloved by all who knew her.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Lincoln assisted by the Rev. Robert Lincoln and Rev. E.W. Cross.

The sons and sons-in-law acted as pallbearers. The music was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Sears, Mrs. A.H. Dempster and Mr. H.F. Stahl. Burial was at Hazelwood.

At the time of her death she was making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Trumbel on High street, where the funeral was held.

Mrs. Jones was a strong character true to the nobler instincts, who inspired her children to love the best in everything. Her work was in the home, but all who knew her recognized her as a notable woman, earnest and loving, always looking forward, building strong and sure the foundation of a lovable life.
