The Grinnell (IA) Herald; July 26, 1901

--Charles Maciejewski was born in Bromberg, Germany, in 1835. He was united in marriage in Germany to Miss Augusta Schubert. He came to America to Joliet in 1867. In 1868 he came to Kellogg. In 1868 his wife and family migrated to this country and their home was at Kellogg until six years ago when all came to Grinnell. Since that time he has been a well known shoe maker of this city. About a year ago he discovered that a cancer had begun its deadly work in his mouth and he went to Davenport and had the growth removed. The relief was only temporary however. He went to live with his daughter just west of the city, last January and endured the painful ravages of the disease until released from earthly pain last Saturday morning. His remains were interred in the German cemetery, at Kellogg, Sunday, the services being conducted by the Rev. Mr. Altman. He leaves a wife, a daughter, Mrs. H.G. Peters, and a son, Hugo Wingmuth, of Valley Junction, to mourn a kind and indulgent husband and father.
