The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Nov. 10, 1916

MRS. AUGUSTA MARIE MACIEJEWSKI

Augusta Marie Schubert was born in a suburb of Elbing, German, on Oct. 10, 1833.

Her childhood was surrounded with every comfort and many luxuries. At the age of six years, following a severe attack of measles, she lost her eyesight for two years. Financial reverses and the death of her parents compelled her in her girlhood to earn her own living.

She was united in marriage to Carl Wingmuth in 1857. After two years and seven months, Mr. Wingmuth died of brain fever, leaving one son, Hugo Wingmuth, seven months old.

After a few years she was married to Chas. Maciejewski. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. H.G. Peters. Soon after this marriage she had the smallpox, which left her blind again for some time.

In 1870 she came to America to join her husband who had located in Kellogg, Ia., where they resided for 27 years. From Kellogg they moved to Grinnell, and after five weeks she lost her eyesight permanently.

Mr. Maciejewski died near Grinnell in 1900, after a protracted illness, and after this time Mrs. Maciejewski made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Peters.

Mrs. Maciejewski was confirmed and joined the Lutheran church in her girlhood, and she remained a faithful member during her life.

Her life has been one of patience and cheefulness under great afflictions.

She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Mrs. G.H. Peters; one son, Hugo Wingmuth, of Rock Island; six grandchildren, Herbert Peters and Carl Peters of Grinnell, Mrs. B.H. Schriver of Rock Island, Clifford Wingmuth of Davenport, Gertrude Wingmuth and Nora Wingmuth of Rock Island; and two great-grandchildren, Raymond Peters of Grinnell, and Margaret Jane Wingmuth of Davenport.

Mrs. Maciejewski died on Saturday morning, Nov. 4, at the home of her daughter, where the funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Edward W. Cross. Interment was made in the cemetery northeast of Kellogg.
