MARVIN W. MEDHUS

Marvin W. Medhus, 81, of Toledo and formerly of Gilman died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at Grandview Acres Care Center in Toledo.

Following cremation at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, memorial services and a celebration of his life were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at the funeral home.

He was born March 5, 1925, in Gilman, the son of Oliver and Grace Bender Medhus. He was raised and educated there, graduating from Gilman High School.

On May 20, 1944, he married Norma Adeane Triplett in the Bethany United Methodist Parsonage in Marshalltown. Following their marriage, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.

After his discharge, he returned to the Gilman area where he farmed and sold farm equipment for Ahrens until his retirement in 1985.

He initiated low-income housing projects for the residents of Gilman and was a member of the Gilman Lions Club and the Gilman United Church of Christ. He was also a 4-H leader.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Gary Medhus, Sondra Patterson and Terry Medhus, all of Gilman, and Brett Medhus of Reinbeck; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
