MRS. GEARHART RITES FRIDAY

Ruth G. Gearhart, 62, of 515 Sixth Ave., the wife of Grinnell City Councilman Paul Gearhart, died Tuesday morning at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Palo Alto Cemetery south of Newton. Friends may call the Smith Funeral Home for additional information.

The daughter of Paul and Ida Gray Batten, she was born June 21, 1915, at Ortonville. She attended public schools there, later graduating from Adel High School.

On Sept. 5, 1937, she was married to Paul Gearhart at Adel. The couple lived in Carlisle, Adel, Dallas Center and Marengo before moving to Grinnell in 1943. Mrs. Gearhart was associated with the food services at Bailey Park Elementary School for 21 years. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and Circle 10 at the church.

Survivors include her mother of Claremont, Calif.; her husband, Paul; her children, Kenneth of Sioux City, Mrs. Jerry (Elizabeth) Baker of Centerville, and William P. II of Conrad; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Batten of Blackwell, Okla., and Charles Batten of Sacramento, Calif.
