LEWIS ZIRBEL WAS LONG TIME FARMER IN MALCOM VICINITY

Funeral services and burial for Lewis Zirbel were conducted Sunday, Dec. 31. The services were in the Congregational church at Mitchellville and interment was in Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom. The Rev. John M. Nolin officiated at both services.

Lewis Fredrick Zirbel, youngest son of 10 children born to Sophia and Albert Zirbel, was born on a farm near Montezuma, Dec. 8, 1886. He died Dec. 29 at his home in Mitchellville at the age of 75 years and 21 days.

His early life was spent on his parents farm, attending rural school and graduation from Montezuma high with the class of 1905. He then attended Cedar Rapids Business college.

He was united in marriage with Irma M. Robb, Dec. 27, 1910, at her parental home near Malcom. They began their married life on a farm near Malcom where their three daughters were born. Later they moved to a farm near Newton, and in 1944 moved near Mitchellville where he managed a farm until his retirement in 1950. Since they made their home in Mitchellville. He had been ill for an extended period and bedfast for the last eight months prior to death. He was a member of the First Congregational church and a deacon.

Surviving are his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Norma DeHoet, Zwingle, and Mrs. Lois Smith, Bondurant; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Gus Zirbel, Montezuma; Emil Zirbel, Houston, Texas; Henry Zirbel, Newton, and Albert Zirbel, Brookings, Ore., a sister, Mrs. Ida McClure, Ft. Collins, Colo., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
