TUESDAY SERVICES SCHEDULED FOR EMMA VAN DERVEER

Mrs. Emma Van Derveer, 90, of 1409 Main St., died Thursday afternoon at a Grinnell nursing home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from the First Congregational church (UCC) with the Rev. Newell E. Davis, pastor, officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Mrs. F. Addison Jones, accompanied by Elbert Smith at the organ.

Pallbearers will be A.J. Blakely, Howard Hyde, Croft Pilgrim, Raymond Pilgrim, C.M. Pilgrim and Clair Strand. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Van Derveer had not been in good health the past few years and had made her home since April at Friendship Manor.

She was the daughter of Albert and Clementine DuBois Berriman and was born Nov. 10, 1876, at Blue Grass, Iowa. She attended the schools near her home in Blue Grass and when a young girl came to Grinnell to live with her grandmother.

On Nov. 29, 1892, she was united in marriage with Clinton Van Derveer at Davenport. To this union were born four children, two of whom survive: Mrs. Hobart A. (Alta) Ross of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Mrs. Joel (Mary) Stewart of Grinnell.

Mrs. Van Derveer was a member of the First Congregational church (UCC) and served her church in the women's societies. She was also a Gold Star Mother, a son, Earl Kenneth, being killed in action in Holland during World War II.

Surviving besides her two daughters are six grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clinton in 1926; and two sons, Earl Kenneth and Faye Chester Van Derveer.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Nellie Gertrude) Evans and Mrs. *Arthur (Myrtle Mae) Buckwalter; and one brother, Ira Elmer Berriman.
