OBITUARY OF MRS. CLEMENTINE BERRIMAN

Funeral services for Mrs. Clementine Berriman were held Friday afternoon from the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. William Welsh. Pallbearers were Norman Pilgrim, Walter Deming, Ed Bohstedt, Frank Brown, Will Spooner and Howard Hyde. A ladies' quartet composed of Mrs. John Carter, Alice Scandrett, Mrs. A.E. Johnson and Mrs. Howard Hyde sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "Nearer My Home" and "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me." Interment was at Hazelwood cemetery.

Clementine DuBois was born October 12, 1848, at Blue Grass, Scott county, Iowa, and passed away March 20, 1935.

If she had lived until fall, she would have reached the age of 87 years. She has been gradually failing in health the last few years, but never was she ready to give up and always busied herself with some little task.

While visiting with her daughter, Mrs. C. Vanderveer, she became critically ill, and about one week ago she was removed to the home of Mrs. Charles Evans. Realizing that the end was near, she wished to spend her last days in the home that had been hers for almost forty years.

It was here, surrounded by loved ones and her faithful daughters, that she slipped away.

Her early girlhood was spent in the neighborhood of her birth.

On August 16, 1870, she was united in marriage to Albert Berriman. To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son, namely Mrs. Milton Buckwalter, Mrs. C. Vanderveer and Mrs. Charles Evans and Ira Berriman.

Mrs. Buckwalter, Ira Berriman and four grandchildren preceded her in death.

In 1896 she came to Grinnell to make her home with Mrs. Charles Evans.

On June 24, 1900, Mrs. Berriman was baptized, and united with the Grinnell Baptist church. She as always greatly interested in her church, and led a very quiet, Christian life. The last years she was unable to attend the services, due to her failing health.

She was a friend of the young people, and "Grandma Berriman," as they called her, will be greatly missed.

Besides one sister, Mrs. C.F. Sparrow of Houston, Texas, two daughters, Mrs. C. Vanderveer and Mrs. Charles Evans, fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, a host of friends are left to mourn.
