MRS. CHAS. EVANS PASSES AWAY AFTER A LONG ILLNESS

Death brought relief from a long and painful illness Nov. 21, 1942, to Mrs. Charles Evans, who passed from this life at her home south of Grinnell.

Nellie Gertrude Berriman was born July 12, 1874 in Blue Grass, Scott county, near Davenport. Her parents were Albert and Tina Berriman. In young womanhood she came to live near Grinnell. On Nov. 27, 1895 she was married to Charles Thomas Evans in his parental home.

To this union were born four children. Seldom do parents suffer such a severe blow of sorrow as occurred in 1918 when on November 25, Floyd Charles a member of the S.A.T.C. of the World War I, died during the flu epidemic. On Dec. 5, Elsie May passed away, and only four days later, Dec. 9, Gladys Marie, wife of Ward Briggs, A.E.F., followed them in death. Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, Charles, her son, Donovan F., and her sister, Mrs. Emma Van Derveer, all of Grinnell.

She had been for years a faithful and active member of the First Baptist church of Grinnell, until her health made even attendance impossible.

Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her passing, many relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. G.L. McKinney, were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock in the First Baptist church. Pallbearers were Hobart Ross of Des Moines, Chet Van Derveer of Eldora, Burrson Farmer, Leonard Evans, Sherman Mackin and Willis Evans. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
