JUDD LAGRANGE, 88 SUCCUMBS MONDAY; SERVICES TODAY

Judd LaGrange, 88, Grinnell, died Monday evening at a local hospital. He had been in failing health for the past year and had been hospitalized the last 10 days.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph J. Houghton of the First Assembly of God officiating. Organist was Mrs. Rhee Auman. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mr. LaGrange was the son of Will and Hannah Fuller LaGrange and was born in a log cabin near Marengo on Feb. 24, 1871. His grandfather came to America from France in the early 1800's and was among the earliest settlers in Ohio.

Later the family settled in the Marengo area. When Mr. LaGrange was five years old the family journeyed by covered wagon and settled west of Grinnell near Sugar Creek.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Emma Curtis in 1888 and to this union were born seven children: Mrs. John (Millie May) Grubb, now deceased; Mrs. Samuel (Addie) Spears, also deceased; Mrs. Russell (Elsie) King of Grinnell; Mrs. Lester (Ruby) Anderson of Des Moines; Floyd of Grinnell; Mrs. William (Marjorie) Lacey of Grinnell; and one son who died in infancy.

Mr. LaGrange was a farmer and later a blacksmith and welder in Grinnell.

He is survived by his four children, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother.

He was preceded in death by his wife, three children, five brothers, and one sister.
