ANNA STEPHENSON WAS POSTMASTER FOR DEEP RIVER

DEEP RIVER--Memorial services for Anna Stephenson, for many years a teacher here and postmaster for 15 years, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Chrstian church by Rev. John Hansel, Montezuma, pastor. Mrs. Walter Hahn played the musical selections and commpanied Mrs. Hansel as she sang "I Love To Tell The Story."

Interment was in the family lot in Golden Rod cemetery under direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Robert McWilliams, Evan Elliott, Harry Taylor, Cecil Cranston, Ray Bruns and George Dale.

Anna Mary, daughter of Magdalena and Louis Schwerdtfeger, was born near Tama July 30, 1872 and died at her home in Deep River Sept. 10, at 91 years of age.

At the age of 11 she moved with her parents to Sutherland, Iowa, and in October 1894, she united with the Christian church there.

June 13, 1899, she was united in marriage with Wessel T. Stephenson, at Webster City. To this union, one son was born.

She taught in the public schools of Iowa for nearly a quarter of a century. On Sept. 1, 1934, she became postmaster at Deep River and served 15 years in that position.

She leaves her son, Wessel Bruce Stephenson, Seattle, Wash., a step-son, R.L. Stephenson, Newaygo, Mich.; three grandsons, Bobbie, Milwaukee, Wis.; Bennie, Morris, Ill., and Bruce Oliver, Seattle; five great grandchildren; a sister, Miss Laura Schwerdtfeger, Los Angeles, Calif., other relatives and many friends.
