REV. WARREN L. JAMES

Warren Lloyd James passed away at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, IA on Thursday, November 16, 2000.

Funeral services were Saturday, November 18, 2000 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, IA with Pastor Russell Farrell of Prairie City, IA officiating.

Mrs. Sandra Warden was the organist and Mr. Jarold Greene sang "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart" and "In The Garden."

Casket bearers were Kenneth James, David Story, Brant Greene, Brent Romberg, Eric Bru and Dwight Danner. Honorary casket bearers were Jim Clingman, Bob McLain, Kenneth Husted, Bob Wimer, Lester Thompson, Larry Mathes, Vernon VanderLeest and Kenneth Neels.

Interment was in Little Mount Baptist Cemetery, west of Montezuma. Blakley-Stevens American Legion Post No. 169 performed military gravesite rites.

Warren Lloyd James, the son of Stella Fayer and Benjamin Harrison James, was born December 22, 1920 near Montezuma, IA.

He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1938. In 1942 he married Velma Revell at Fresno, California. He entered military service in 1942 and served in the European Theater of Operations with the 9th Air Force Service Command until he was honorably discharged in 1945. Warren farmed near Montezuma until 1966 when he became a Baptist minister. He was ordained in 1970. He served as pastor of the What Cheer Baptist Church from 1967 to 1985. He also ministered at Coal Ridge Baptist Church, Rathbun Lake View Chapel, Confidence, Iowa Baptist and at Bricelyn, MN. Since 1986, he has pastored the Montezuma Regular Baptist Church.

He was secretary of the Union Township Trustees, the Montezuma V.F.W. Post No. 8876 and the Blakely-Stevens American Legion Post No. 169.

Warren is survived by his wife, Velma; one son, Lauren Kenneth James of Montezuma; four grandchildren, Kenneth Lloyd James, Kristina Ann James, Becky Sease and Brent Romberg; great grandchildren, Destiny Lynn James, Skylar Romberg, and Luke Sease; two sisters, Louise McLain and Erma Holcomb. He was called "Grampa" by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Florence Wiley and Arlene Johnston.
