LOIS A. CRAWFORD

Lois A. Crawford, 81, of Grinnell died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, of cancer at Friendship Manor.

A funeral service will be held Friday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Vocal music will be by Milton Severe accompanied by Kathleen Heffner, organist. Pallbearers will be Jamie, Jeff and Justin Davis, Craig and Kent Morrison and Jeff Finch. Honorary bearers will be Luke and Zach Decker. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, to Henry and Pearl Young Lauber. She attended rural school and later Grinnell High School. She was married on July 17, 1940, to Max M. Crawford Sr. in Lancaster, Mo. The couple resided in Grinnell where she formerly was employed at DeLong's and retired in 1985 as a bookkeeper with Pamida. She later worked part time for the Cinema Theater. She was a member of the Grinnell American Legion Auxiliary and Victor Grange.

Survivors are three sons, Ron Crawford of Grinnell, Max Crawford Jr., Creston, and Steve Crawford, Nevada; three daughters, Judith Davis of Bloomington, Ill., and Carolyn Lyons and Beverly Morrison, both of Des Moines; one brother Duane Lauber of Newton; seven sisters, Doris Winchell and Donna German, both of Grinnell, Berneice Fritz of Palm Harbor, Fla., Jacqueline Gregson of Livermore, Calif., Marilyn Mithcell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Joan Rowland of Dallas, Texas, and Carol Lauber of Lafayette, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Keith and Merlin Lauber, and two grandchildren.
