SEARSBORO NEWS

Monday forenoon was held the funeral of Mrs. Cotter at the Catholic church. Mass was read by Father M.J. Hannon. Mr. and Mrs. Cotter were among the early residents of Searsboro. Mr. Cotter passed away several years ago leaving the wife with seven little girls, but Mamie died a few days after the father, and a few years later Rose departed this life. The others grew to womanhood. Mrs. Cotter was a plucky little woman and at times was almost overcome by sadness and misfortune yet she kept bravely on, always hoping things would come out all right in the end. She kept her children in school, and three of them became teachers. Part of them got a college education. Left alone as she was her great aim was to do the best she could for her family. She was also thoughtful of her friends and neighbors, always ready to do a kindness or lend a helping hand. One daughter, Mrs. Nora Scott, died about fourteen years ago. The four daughters living were with their mother when she passed away. They are Mrs. Charles Moody of Des Moines, Mrs. E.M. Carr of Manchester and Grace and Cecil of Des Moines. The body was brought to Searsboro Monday and laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery beside the husband and departed children. Those who accompanied the remains were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moody of Des Moines, Judge and Mrs. E.M. Carr of Manchester and Grace and Cecil Cotter of Des Moines.

Mrs. Lowrey, Mrs. Norris, Mrs. Clindinin, Mrs. Powell and Mr. Keener came down from Grinnell to attend the funeral of Mrs. Cotter; also Mrs. Frank Bechly and Lon Morgan of Montezuma.
