MRS. JOHN COTTER

At an early hour last Saturday morning Mrs. Anna Swan Cotter died at her home in Des Moines. She had been in poor health for the past three months, but pneumonia was the immediate cause of her death.

Mrs. Cotter was born in the county Mayo, Ireland, on December 10, 1849. When about five years of age she came to this country with her parents and on the twenty-third day of January, 1872, she was united in marriage with John Cotter, at New Sharon, Iowa. To this union eight children were born, four of whom, Nora B. Scott, Mary Francis, Rosetta and Besse Leone Cotter, have preceded their mother in death. The four surviving daughters are Anna May Moody, Grace Elizabeth and Mary Celia Cotter of Des Moines, and Katherine N. Carr of Manchester.

The family settled on a farm near Searsboro, Iowa, where the deceased's husband died in September, 1887, leaving her with a large family of young girls to support and educate, and to the faithful performance of that trust she devoted the remaining years of her life.

Mrs. Cotter was a good mother, a good neighbor and a good woman. She so lived as to win the friendship and respect of everyone who knew her.

She was a devout Catholic and the funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Searsboro last Monday. Interment was beside her deceased husband in the cemetery at Searsboro, Rev. Father M.J. Hannon officiating.
