NETIA BOAT BANTA

Netia Boat Banta, 87, of Grinnell died Thursday, Dec. 22, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services for Netia Banta were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Brian, David, Delbert and Max Crawford, Patrick Kramer and Charles Lester. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of John and Roxie Anderson Crawford, she was born on April 3, 1916, in Putnam County, Mo. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to the Grinnell area and was educated in a rural school near their home.

She married Donald Boat on Oct. 16, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. The couple made their home in Missouri and Florida while he served in the U.S. Army. She returned to Grinnell in 1944, while her husband served in Europe, and the couple continued to make Grinnell their home following the war.

Her first husband died in 1962. On March 3, 1969, she married Paul Banta in Silvis, Ill.; they, too, made Grinnell their home.

She was employed for several years with the tent and awning company in Grinnell, then with Maytag in Newton. She worked for DeLong Sportswear for over 20 years, then retired in 1978 after one year of work at Grinnell College.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Lemke of Grinnell; a brother, Delbert Crawford of Grinnell; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands; and one brother, Max Crawford.
