PAUL BANTA SERVICES HELD

Paul Banta, 79, of Lakeside Mobile Homes Park died early Monday at his home. He had been in failing health the past few years, having been paralyzed as the result of a fall.

Masonic services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Clark Watkins and members of Masonic Lodge No.273, AF & AM, officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, with the Rev. Brian L. Cowan, pastor of the Grinnell Northside Friends Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Bob Brooks, Paul (Slim) Hayes, Dale Mains, Dean Mains, Eldred Peterson and Morse Secrist.

The son of Francis Marion and Mary Jane Wright Banta, he was born Oct. 27, 1900, at Centerville. He attended Centerville schools, graduating from Centerville High School.

He was married to Amylee Hoyt at New Sharon, and the couple lived in West Des Moines where he was employed by the Hoak Construction Co. until his retirement in 1965. While in West Des Moines, he was a member of the Gnemeth Lodge No. 577, AF & AM, and the Local 234 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1965. On March 3, 1969, he was married to Neita Crawford Boat, and the couple had lived in Grinnell since that time.

Survivors include his wife, Neita; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ken (Karen) Kramer of Oakland Acres; two step-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lucille Hunter of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Amylee; a brother, Glen Banta; and two sisters, Nora Hoover and Edna Brown.
