EDWARD GILBREAITH

Services for Edward Lewis Gilbreaith were conducted by the Rev. Bobby Dickerson Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, at the First Christian Church. Music was provided by vocalist Betty Snook and organist Alice Underwood. Casket bearers were Dan Hull, Don Crier, David Figland, Paul Good, Adrian Sams and Alan Rabenold. Burial was at Jackson Township Cemetery.

Mr. Gilbreaith, 65, died Friday, Nov. 9, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa.

The son of George and Anna Norris Gilbreaith, he was born March 2, 1919, at Montezuma and graduated from high school here in 1936. He was married to Vema Watts Feb. 18, 1940, at Lancaster, Mo. He served in the Navy during World War II. The Gilbreaiths farmed near here until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1964. In 1975 they moved to Sloan. He was a retired crane operator. He was a member of the First Christian Church here, Lafayette Masonic Lodge, Eagles Lodge at Ottumwa and Operating Engineers Local No. 234.

Surviving are his wife, Vema of Sloan; a son and his wife, Randy and Kathy Gilbreaith of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Rita Gilbreaith of Sloan; and a granddaughter, Margaret Anne Gilbreaith of Jacksonville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bill, in 1977 and a sister, Margaret Gerard.

Watts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
