JOHN BUSHONG WAS NATIVE OF IOWA

John, son of Mary and Miles Bushong, was born in old Browntown, Mahaska county, Feb. 26, 1903, and died July 25 at the home of a sister, Mrs. Helen Owens, in Des Moines.

In infancy he was baptized in the Methodist church. He grew to manhood on a Poweshiek county farm and attended Montezuma schools. He was united in marriage to Opal Johannes Nov. 25, 1931, and to this union two sons were born.

For a number of years he worked in service stations in Montezuma and then returned to farming, continuing in that occupation after Mrs. Bushong's death with the aid of his sons. About a year ago a heart attack forced him to retire and move to Montezuma.

Surviving are the two sons, Kenneth and Bill of Montezuma; three sisters, Mrs. Tillie Swing, Salem, Ore., Mrs. Wanda Kelley and Mrs. Owen, both of Des Moines; a brother, Harold of Montezuma, three granddaughters, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. July 28 at the Methodist church with Rev. George Snyder officiating. Miss Alice Underwood played the funeral selections and accompanied Bill Rempp who sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Burial was in Jackson township cemetery under the direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Sylvan VeVerka, Ralph Peters, Donald McKee, Wesley Malcom, Clarence Simpson and Thomas Byers.
