HUSBAND, IN NAVY, TOO ILL TO ATTEND WIFE'S FUNERAL

Mrs. Clifford Gerard, who has been employed as a clerk in the Penney store here since last September, died Monday afternoon after a very brief illness. She seemed to be in her usual health Saturday morning but was forced to leave the store in the afternoon and her condition grew progressively worse until her death.

Mrs. Gerard's husband, Seaman 2nd class in the Navy, stationed in Farragut, Idaho, is sick in the hospital and was unable to come to his wife's bedside.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Christian church in Montezuma, where Mrs. Gerard's mother resides. Rev. Donald E. Skiles, pastor of the Assembly of God church in Grinnell, was in charge.
