RITES HELD FOR MR. CRAWFORD

Walter R. Crawford, 88, of Grinnell, formerly of Gilman, died Thursday, March 1, at Friendship Manor.

Graveside services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad of the United Church of Christ -Congregational officiating. Pallbearers were John Crawford, Tim Crawford, Dick Svendsen and Steve Svendsen. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The son of John D. and Elizabeth Montgomery Crawford, he was born Nov. 16, 1895, near Brooklyn. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to a farm in Chester Township. He attended rural school.

Mr. Crawford lived most of his life in Gilman where he worked as a custodian for the Gilman Community Church. In 1955, he and his sister, Florence, came to Grinnell to live. He had been a resident of Friendship Manor since 1975.

There are no immediate survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Florence, in 1965; and his brother, William, in 1977.
