VIRGIE D. PATTEN, 97

Miss Virgie D. Patten, 97, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

Funeral services for Virgie Patten were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Malcom Auditorium, Malcom. Ron Thomke, Jeff Thayer, and Charles Middleswarth officiated. The pianist was Diane Harper. Casket bearers were Max Bowman, Dale Bowman, Mark Bowman, Jack Bowman, Bruce Patten, Gene Patten, Terry Visser and Darwin Klenk. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Nevenhoven Funeral Services were in charge of arrangements.

Virgie Daisy Patten was born on Nov. 7, 1905, at Brooklyn, to Alfred and Daisy (Orr) Patten. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1925 and taught country school for 14 years. In January of 1931, she listened to the gospel when it came into her community and accepted it into her life at that time. In November of 1939, she gave her life to the gospel ministry and spent 14 years in Iowa, 14 years in Illinois, 14 years in Oklahoma, and 17 years in Kansas and Nebraska. At the age of 93, she was no longer able for the ministry and spent 14 months in a retirement home in Guthrie, Okla., before her family brought her to the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn, where she spent the last three years.

She is survived by a brother Harry Patten of Brooklyn; a sister Ruth and her husband Ernest Bowman of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.; a brother Jack Patten and his wife Lois Patten of Brooklyn; 10 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Gladys Patten; a brother Howard Patten; two nephews and a great-niece.
