OBITUARY OF MARGARET BROWN

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Brown, nee Pickett, was born, September 20, 1840 in Bureau county, Illinois and resided there until she was nine years of age when she came to Tama county Iowa, and afterwards to Brooklyn, of which place she has been a resident since the year 1870. Her death occurred August 18, 1902 in Brooklyn, Iowa. She was married in Tama county in 1858 to Mr. George Brown. There were born to this union four children, one of whom died in infancy. Mary married Mr. Arnold K. Flack, and died at the age of twenty-one years, leaving one child, Herbert. William, who lives in Waterloo and Orange who resides in Brooklyn are the only surviving children. While in the tender years of youth, while residing in Tama county, she united with the Christian church and during her entire life retained her membership in that body. She has been an earnest devout Christian all her life, and although deprived of attending church worship, still retained her deep interest in spiritual things. Her life has been of peculiar trial. For thirty-four years she has been a confirmed invalid. There have been several periods when she was confined to her bed for several successive years. At other times she was able to get about the house with some comfort but was never able to be out. Her last illness lasted for four weeks, during which she manifested the clearest and strongest Christian faith. Although conscious that the time of her departure had arrived she was perfectly resigned and willing to depart and be with Christ which was far better. The funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at the M.E. church, conducted by Dr. E. Benson, after which the remains were carried to the cemetery.
