CLEO B. THOMAS

Cleo B. Thomas, 70, a resident of The Abbey Nursing Home in Des Moines, formerly of Malcom, died Sunday, Aug. 29, at the nursing home.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and casket bearers were Cyle Brown, George Clark, Delbert Metz, Scott Sadler, John See and Jerry Thomas.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Charles McKinney and Flonnie Thompson Thomas, he was born Oct. 21, 1928, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. He attended rural school and completed his education in the Malcom School District following his family's move to Malcom in 1943.

He worked on the Johnson farm near Malcom for several years and later helped his parents farm. He moved to the Montezuma Senior Home in 1993, then to The Abbey.

He was a member of the Malcom United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his mother; one brother, Lawrence of Montezuma; and three sisters, Louise See of Altoona, Lillian Leadmon of Newton and Dorothy Thomas of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Glen, who died in World War II; and a brother and a sister, Donald and Irene Thomas, in infancy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Malcom United Methodist Church.
