FLONNIE THOMAS

Flonnie Thomas, 102, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Friday, Dec. 7, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Organist was Margaet Wheeler. Pallbearers were Cyle Brown, George Clark, Gary Leadmon, Delbert Metz, John and Robert See, and Jerry Thomas. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of George Washington and Eliza Ann Abbott Thompson, she was born Aug. 12, 1899, in Eubanks, Ky. She was raised and educated in Eubanks and moved with her family to Jasper County in in 1911.

She was married to Charles M. Thomas March 12, 1917, in Newton. They farmed in the Bethel area in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, then moved to their farm south of Malcom in 1943. Mrs. Thomas had been a resident of the Mayflower since 1993.

She was a member of the Bethel Church and later the Malcom United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Survivors include one son, Lawrence of Grinnell; two daughters, Lillian Leadmon of Newton and Dorothy Thomas of Ankeny; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Glen, Cleo and Donald; two daughters, Louise See and Irene Thomas; and six brothers and sisters.
