MRS. VESTAL DIMIT DIES AT MANOR

Mrs. Jessie Ann Dimit, 89, of 1403 Summer St., recent widow of G. Vestal Dimit, died suddenly Sunday (March 7) afternoon at Friendship Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Dimit had been in failing health the past few months and since her husband's death one month ago had been cared for at Friendship Manor.

The daughter of Jared and Mary Coughlin Doolittle, Mrs. Dimit was born near Beatrice, Neb., on Oct. 23, 1881. When she was a girl her father died and she returned to Iowa with her mother and family to live near Brooklyn. She graduated from Brooklyn High School and later taught country school in Chester Township and to this union were born three sons--Merle C. Dimit, Clayton V. Dimit and J. Doanld Dimit, all of Grinnell. (this doesn't quite make sense..MH)

Mr. and Mrs. Dimit had farmed in Chester Township until 1942, when they moved to Grinnell to make their home. Mrs. Dimit was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and was associated with the WSCS of the church. She was also a member of the Grinnell Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving besides her three sons are two granddaughters, Karen Dimit of Iowa City and Patti Dimit of Grinnell.

Mrs. Dimit was preceded in death by her husband, Vestal, who passed away Feb. 7, 1971; a brother, John Doolittle; a sister, Mary Moses; and three half-brothers--Everett Braden, Earl Braden and Herbert Braden.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dimit will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Eugene Young, minister of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating.

Organist will be Mrs. Leonard Pearce. Pallbearers will be Orville Hafkey, Harvey Harris, Merle Harris, Warren Ryan, Richard Sears, and Farrell Siehl.

Burial will be made beside her late husband in the Chester Township Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Grinnell Methodist Church.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
