ERNEST THORSON

Ernest I. Thorson, 73, of Rte. 4, Grinnell, died Thursday, April 7, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata, pastor of the Malcom Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organist was James Severe, and soloist was Milton Severe. Pallbearers were Daryl Bennett, Dave Eilertson, Kirk Halstead, Darryl Hull, Larry Iverson, Leslie Iverson, Keith Johnson and Ronald Osborn. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was the son of Iver and Bessie Christianson Thorson and was born June 30, 1920, on his parents' farm near Grinnell. He was a 1938 graduate of Gilman High School. Following his graduation, he helped his father farm near Gilman and State Center before returning to farm near Grinnell in 1947. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran following World War II.

He was married to Doris Paul Aug. 1, 1953, in Newton. The couple continued to farm. Mr. Thorson was a member of the Poweshiek County Farm Bureau and was a former 4-H leader.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; one daughter, Dorene Thorson of Altoona; and two sons, Dean of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Richard of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ida Rost.
