IVER THORSON SERVICES HELD

Iver Thorson, 85, of 1507 West St., Grinnell, died suddenly Tuesday evening at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services for Mr. Thorson were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marcus E. Reitz, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Wayne Dayton, vocalist. Pallbearers were David Eilertson, Doyle Eilertson. Arthur Iverson, Lawrence Iverson, Lester W. Osborn, and Raymond Osborn. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Thore and Hanna Thorson, he was born Feb. 22, 1891, near Stavanger, Norway. He attended school in Norway before moving to the U.S. as a teenager.

He was married to Bessie Olga Christianson on Feb. 11, 1913, in Grinnell. The couple had two children. Mr. and Mrs. Thorson lived in and around Grinnell, except for a few years when they farmed near State Center and Gilman. They returned to the family farm near Grinnell in 1947, moving into town in 1967.

Mr. Thorson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his children, Ernest I. Thorson of Grinnell and Mrs. Louis (Ida) Rost of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie, who died March 26, 1973; his parents; and a half-brother.
